Danielle Wiesner, CNM

Back when she was working as a nurse, Danielle loved working with women during their labor and helping couples start a family but wanted to play a bigger role. "At that time I felt that women were not being given the autonomy they deserved and there wasn't enough shared decision-making about their bodies and pregnancies," she explains. "I wanted to help change that."

Danielle's area of expertise is midwifery. "I have always known that I wanted to work with women, babies, and their families. In fact, I knew from the beginning that obstetrics would be my calling. I did not know it would be midwifery until about six years into my nursing career. I had so many wonderful experiences with patients but I wanted to see them more. I wanted to be there for them during their pregnancy and after. I also really love experiencing the birthing process and watching the power women have.”

Danielle believes in building a relationship with all of her patients and working together to get the best outcome possible. "We walk hand-in-hand together but I'm not guiding them, we are walking side by side," she explains. "I like to arm my patients with information so that they can make the best possible decision for themselves. I like to think of myself as a GPS-I can tell you where to go and how to get there but my patient can say, 'No, I don't like that way," and together, we find a different way. I want women to know that I will make space for them whenever they need it and that I hear them and understand their needs."

To Danielle, watching a woman go through labor and birth is magical. "No birth is the same. However, every woman has a unique, shared experience. It's almost like becoming part of a club. I love hearing women's birth stories, what was amazing, what was heartbreaking, what empowered them, what humbled them. I love being part of that. It's the greatest privilege to be invited into a women's birth space."

When she is not busy with patients Danielle loves spending time with her husband of and son, hiking or exploring breweries in the area. She enjoys walking dogs for the New England Humane Society, reading a good book, and running Spartan races. Danielle also enjoys early morning CrossFit classes as well as entertaining friends and family in her home.
